No. 5 West Chester Tops Belmont Abbey, 18-6

BELMONT, N.C. – Three players registered hat tricks as No. 5 West Chester went on the road during spring break and defeated homestanding Belmont Abbey, 18-6, on Monday afternoon.
 
West Chester (2-0) jumped out quickly on Belmont Abbey (3-4) with nine goals in the first quarter. Hannah Stanislawczyk (Mohnton, Pa./Gov. Mifflin) potted four goals while Helen Krescholleck (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley) and Julia Littlewood (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) each scored three times. Lindsay Monigle (Rehoboth Beach, Del./Cape Henlopen) dished out four assists while Keri Barnett (Glenolden, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) scored twice and handed out a pair of assists.
 
The Golden Rams opened up a 14-1 lead by halftime and was well in control of the game really from the outset. West Chester caused 12 turnovers to thwart any type of offensive momentum that Belmont Abbey tried to build.
 
The Golden Rams limited the hosts to just 13 shots in the game and held a decided 18-9 advantage on draw controls.
 
Meghan Cull (Springfield, Pa./Springfield-DELCO) and Meg O'Donnell (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland) each scored twice and added an assist. Cassidy Hirsch (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Moreland) also scored her first college goal in the second half.
 
All three goalkeepers got time in the cage. Jessica Gorr (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) picked up the win making the start and registering one save. Amber Weedon (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) recorded three saves in the third quarter without yielding a goal. Ellie Hughes (Abington, Pa./Abington) made a pair of saves in the fourth quarter.
 
West Chester returns home for its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division opener against Shippensburg on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Vonnie Gros Field.
