Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

No. 5 West Chester Defeats Shippensburg, 17-4

WEST CHESTER, PA – Grad student Helen Kreschollek (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley) led all scorers with four goals while Lindsay Monigle (Rehoboth Beach, Del./Cape Henlopen) added six points on the strength of four assists to lead fifth-ranked West Chester to a 17-4 victory over visiting Shippensburg in the conference opener for the Golden Rams at sun-splashed Vonnie Gros Field Wednesday afternoon.

West Chester (3-0, 1-0 PSAC East) busted out of the gates with seven goals in the first eight minutes to open up a 7-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. Shippensburg (2-3, 0-1) settled down after that, but it was too late for the Raiders to mount a comeback.

Shippensburg ended the home team's scoring run with a tally off a free position early in the second quarter. But, West Chester answered with five more goals to take a 12-1 lead into the locker room. Barnett tallied two of those five, including a nifty behind-the-back flick off a pass from Monigle, while Kreschollek netted her third marker of the game in the first half alone. Her second goal of the game came off an interception of a pass by the Raiders' keeper near midfield in which she flung the ball into an open net from about 25 yards out. Shippensburg's goalie was out of the cage helping in the clearing game when she threw the arrant pass.

The third quarter belonged to the visitors with the Raiders outscoring the Golden Rams, 3-1. However, once again, West Chester had an answer in the fourth with four straight goals to put the game away.

Keri Barnett (Glenolden, Pa./Archbishop Carroll), Hannah Stanislawczyk (Mohnton, Pa./Gov. Mifflin) and Julia Littlewood (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) each registered hat tricks. Littlewood added an assist for a four-point game.

Grace Frasso (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) and Barnett each recorded six draw controls. Julia Rossi (Hamilton Square, N.J./Notre Dame) caused a game-high four turnovers. West Chester dominated the draws, holding a 17-8 advantage. The Golden Rams also harassed the Raiders into a 17 of 26 success rate in clearing the ball.

West Chester travels to Millersville on Saturday for another PSAC East clash with the Marauders at 1 p.m. at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium.
