No. 5 West Chester Survives a Tough Road Contest at Millersville, 13-10

MILLERSVILLE, PAHelen Kreschollek (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley) scored four goals, and Lindsay Monigle (Rehoboth Beach, Del./Cape Henlopen) posted five points, as visiting West Chester survived a scare from a determined Millersville squad, 13-10, at Biemesderfer Stadium Saturday afternoon.

West Chester (4-0, 2-0 PSAC East) remained perfect on the season with an inspired run in the second and third quarters against Millersville (4-2, 0-2), who was playing its second Top 7 opponent in four days.

Kreschollek and Julia Littlewood (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) combined to score four unanswered goals in the second quarter and first tally of the third that turned a 5-5 tie into a 9-5 advantage for the Golden Rams. It was the decisive swing in the game as the Marauders never got closer than three the rest of the way.

West Chester did push the lead back to as many as five (12-7) right at the beginning of the fourth quarter. Millersville responded by scoring three of the last four goals of the game, but it was too much of a hole to dig out of.

The Golden Rams scored a goal in the final four seconds of each of the first three quarters. Kreschollek scored at the buzzer in the first, Littlewood tallied one of her two goals four seconds before halftime and Hannah Stanislawczyk (Mohnton, Pa./Gov. Mifflin) potted one of her two markers at the buzzer of the third. Those three tallies proved costly in a game decided by three goals.

Taylor O'Brien (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) scored two goals for the Golden Rams. Amber Weedon (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) made 10 saves and scooped up seven ground balls to pick up her second straight win of the season.

West Chester returns home on Tuesday when it welcomes No. 7 East Stroudsburg to Vonnie Gros Field for a Top 10 showdown of unbeatens in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division.
