WEST CHESTER, PA –
Helen Kreschollek (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley) scored a career-high six goals, and
Lindsay Monigle (Rehoboth Beach, Del./Cape Henlopen) posted an eight-point day, as No. 5 West Chester topped visiting Bloomsburg, 24-6, on Senior Day at Vonnie Gros Field Saturday.
West Chester (5-1, 3-1 PSAC East) got 14 points from its two offensive seniors while the two defensive seniors limited Bloomsburg (6-2, 3-1) to just 12 shots and only six goals.
The Golden Rams scored the first six goals of the game to get out of the gates quickly. The Huskies finally got on the board with just under three minutes left in the first quarter. But,
Hannah Stanislawczyk (Mohnton, Pa./Gov. Mifflin) answered right back 17 seconds later to push the lead to 7-1. Bloomsburg netted its second goal with 1:41 to go. But, again, West Chester responded quickly with a pair of goals from Monigle in the final minute to give the hosts a 9-2 lead after one.
Meghan Cull (Springfield, Pa./Springfield-DELCO) and
Cassidy Hirsch (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Moreland) potted back-to-back tallies in the second that extended the lead to 11-2. Bloomsburg came back with a pair of their own to draw within seven (11-4). That was as close as the visitors would get.
The Golden Rams opened the second half with an 8-0 run that vanquished any doubt of the eventual outcome.
Keri Barnett (Glenolden, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) fueled the run with three of the markers.
Monigle scored four times and assisted on four others for her eight points. Barnett finished with four goals.
Taylor O'Brien (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) recorded a hat trick of her own, along with Cull, and finished with five points adding on two assists. Stanislawczyk notched a pair of goals.
Chloe Ondria (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) scored her first college goal as well.
Jessica Gorr (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) registered a pair of saves in the cage to pick up her third win of the season.
Amber Weedon (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) played the second half and made four saves.
West Chester opens a four-game road swing next Wednesday at Shepherd University with a 4 p.m. tilt.
