SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV - Luke Cantwell (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) hit a solo home run in the third inning, but host Shepherd responded with two in the fifth and one in the sixth to come from behind and beat the visiting Golden Rams, 3-1, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division contest.
West Chester (17-7, 6-4 PSAC East) will return home on Monday to play a doubleheader with Shepherd University (11-12, 6-6-1). That twinbill has been moved to Maple Zone Sports Complex in Aston, Pa. at 12 p.m.
Braeden Fausnaught (Danville, Pa./Danville) suffered his first loss of the season (5-1). He pitched 5.2 innings, allowing three runs on four hits. He walked four and struck out nine.
Shepherd's Daniel Keer hit a two-run homer off Fausnaught in the fifth to put the Rams in front, 2-1. Reliever
Dylan Howanitz (Archbald, Pa./Valley View) walked Keer with the bases loaded in the sixth forcing home the third run of the ballgame.
Joe Messina (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) came on to relieve Howanitz and tossed 2.1 innings of scoreless baseball, allowing two hits, walking one and striking out two.
