WEST CHESTER, Pa.-With a late second-quarter goal,
Hannah Stanislawczyk (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) reached the 100-point milestone for her career while freshman
Keri Barnett (Glenolden, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) posted a double-double finishing with 11 points (5 G, 6 A) and 10 draw controls to lead No. 5 West Chester (12-1, 9-1 PSAC) to a 21-3 victory over Shepherd (4-9, 2-7).
Stanislawczyk, Barnett, and
Helen Kreschollek (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley) all scored five goals in the victory to tie for the team lead in scoring but it was Barnett who led the team in points, as she also chipped in six assists to help facilitate the Golden Ram offense throughout the afternoon.
West Chester never trailed in this contest and used a dominant second-quarter effort, which saw the Golden Rams outscore their guests 7-0 to take a 12-1 lead into the halftime break and grab control
of the contest heading into the second half.
Eight different Golden Rams found the back of the net in this contest as
Jordan Santana (Egg Harbor Twp., N.J./Egg Harbor Twp.) scored twice while
Lindsay Monigle (Rehoboth Beach, Del./Cape Henlopen), Taylor O'Brien (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus), Meg O'Donnell (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga), and Alexis Smallwood (Margate City, N.J./Ocean City) all scored once to lead West Chester to the dominant 21-3 victory.
West Chester ended the game with a 19-8 advantage in draw controls, thanks in large part to the career-high 10 from Barnett, which is the most in a single-game by a Golden Ram since
Maggie Stella had 13 in March 2019 vs East Stroudsburg.
Barnett's 11 points is also the most in a game by a Golden Ram this season, and is just one shy of
Tatum Altman's 12 point effort vs Kutztown in April 2021, which is tied for the fourth-best single game effort in program history. This 11-point effort also ties Barnett for first in the PSAC in single-game points so far this season, matching an 11-point effort by Jaclyn Frank (Seton Hill) vs IUP earlier in April.
The Golden Rams efforts clearing the ball and their rides on Shepherd clears were a major factor in the victory as West Chester was an impressive 18-of-21 on clear attempts while holding Shepherd to an effort of just 14-for-24 on these attempts. The Golden Rams ended the game with a 15-26 edge in the turnover battle and a 30-15 lead in ground balls thanks in large part to the efforts of
Grace Frasso (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) who caused six turnovers and scooped five ground balls, wreaking havoc on the defensive end of the field for much of the afternoon.
In goal, reigning PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week
Jessica Gorr (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) and
Amber Weedon (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) split the time as Gorr got the start and the win, making one save and allowing one goal over the course of the first half of play while Weedon played the second half, allowing a pair of goals while making three saves of her own.
For Shepherd, Sidney Kelly, Paige Alexander, and Kira Barth all tallied a goal while Hailey Bennett made 17 saves to slow the potent West Chester offense.
West Chester will be back in action on Saturday afternoon at Bloomsburg with that contest set to begin at 2 p.m.
