KUTZTOWN, PA –
Keri Barnett (Glenolden, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) and
Hannah Stanislawczyk (Mohnton, Pa./Gov. Mifflin) each scored four goals, and visiting West Chester hung on with a flurry down the stretch to get out of Keystone Field with a 15-13 victory over host Kutztown Saturday afternoon.
West Chester (7-1, 5-1 PSAC East) scored four of the final six goals to break an 11-11 tie early in the fourth quarter and rally past a determined Kutztown squad (4-5, 1-5), which was searching for its first win over the Golden Rams in 16 tries, dating back to the inception of the program in 2008.
Taylor O'Brien (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) and
Cassidy Hirsch (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Moreland) potted back-to-back tallies 75 second apart that made it a 13-11 game. When Kutztown pulled back to within one two minutes later,
Helen Kreschollek's (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley) third and final marker of the afternoon answered that Bears goal 13 seconds later. Barnett extended the lead to 15-12 for insurance.
Barnett added an assist to finish with five points.
Lindsay Monigle (Rehoboth Beach, Del./Cape Henlopen) scored a goal and assisted on four others for a five-point outing as well.
Alexis Smallwood (Margate City, N.J./Ocean City) also scored for the Golden Rams.
Amber Weedon (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) got the win in relief in the cage. She made five saves.
West Chester travels to Mercy College on Wednesday for a non-league affair with the Mavericks at 4 pm at Mercy Field.
