WEST CHESTER, PA - A four-run seventh gave host West Chester a 7-4 lead, and then freshman closer
Kyle Lazer (Havertown, Pa./Msgr. Bonner & Prendie) came on and got out of a jam, lifting the Golden Rams to a 7-6 victory over 15th-ranked Millersville at Serpico Stadium Friday afternoon.
West Chester (22-9, 10-6 PSAC East) took a 7-4 lead into the top of the ninth when Lazer came on to pitch. The Marauders made it interesting, scoring two runs on three straight doubles, but Lazer struck out Justin Taylor with the tying run at third base to end the game. Millersville dropped to 31-9 overall and 13-3 in conference play.
Mike Ferrara (Jamison, Pa./Archbishop Wood) went 2-for-3 with three RBI while
Justin Horn (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Darby), playing in his first game since April 2, went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI and a pair of runs scored.
Joe Messina (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) earned his third win of the season in just two-thirds innings of work. Left-hander
Gabe Rappa (Paulsboro, N.J./Neumann-Goretti) started and lasted 6.1 innings, yielding three earned runs on six hits. He walked three and struck out six.
West Chester will travel to Cooper Park in Millersville on Saturday for a conference doubleheader against the Marauders.
