PHILADELPHIA – West Chester University's men's soccer team slipped past non-league opponent Holy Family in a 5-1 victory for the first road game of the season on Saturday afternoon.
After falling to Jefferson just days prior, the Golden Rams bounced back strong against the Tigers.
Owen Slack (Collegeville, PA/Perkiomen Valley) held possession taking a shot that was saved, but rebounding back to
Andrew Markopoulos (Drexel Hill, PA/Msgr. Bonner & Prendergast) who put the visitors on top in the 18th minute, 1-0.
West Chester controlled possession for the remainder of the first half testing the Holy Family back line and goalie, Tyler Myers, with five shots and two on goal.
Markopoulos registered his second goal of the game converting a penalty kick in the 51st minute to double the Golden Rams' lead, 2-0.
Josh Daniels (Fleetwood, PA / Oley Valley) gave West Chester a three-goal lead in the 63rd minute.
After subbing in,
Brandon Duke (Royersford, PA/Spring-Ford) recorded his first career-goal for the Golden Rams in the 83rd minute off an assist from
Shane Hartey (Runnemede, NJ/Triton Hall) that lifted the score 4-0.
Holy Family answered back shortly after with a goal from Gavin Rowan to put the Tigers on the board (4-1).
West Chester wasn't done testing the Holy Family defense when
Ryan Keenan (Bethlehem, PA / Northampton) for the Golden Rams' fifth and last goal of the match in the 90th minute of regulation to mark the final score 5-1.
West Chester goalie,
Daniel Good (Exton, PA/Downingtown East), made two saves on the day while the rest of the Golden Rams ended the match with a 16-9 advantage in shots and 4-3 lead in corner kicks to the Tigers.
The Golden Rams will be back on the road Wednesday for their next match against the University of the District of Columbia at 12:00 p.m.
