WEST CHESTER, PA –
Jasmine Miller (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor) and
Valerie van Kuijck (Denbosch, The Netherlands) each scored two goals, and goalkeeper
Megan Gula (Lincoln University, Pa./Avon Grove) registered her second straight shutout as West Chester downed New Haven, 8-0, on a wet Sunday afternoon at Vonnie Gros Field.
Second-ranked West Chester (4-0) dominated 10th-ranked New Haven (0-3) all afternoon, outshooting the Chargers by a 50-5 margin – mainly on the strength of a 23-2 advantage in penalty corners. Van Kuijck finished the day with five points in the win (2G, 1A).
Paige Wolfe (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) posted a goal and two assists to support offensive onslaught as well. Wolfe played a role in three of the team's first four markers in the game. Miller's two tallies, coupled with van Kuijck's pair of goals, leaves the tandem tied for the team lead in that category.
Dara Spavlik (Hockessin, Del./Conrad) recorded a pair of assists on the afternoon – both coming on corners.
Yasmine van Soest (Venlo, The Netherlands) posted a goal and an assist. Six different goal scorers and eight different point-getters dotted the scoresheet at game's end.
Cameron Smith (Lewes, Del./Cape Henlopen) and
Jaclyn Charbonneau (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) each netted their first goals of the year as well.
Gula had to make just two saves to improve to 4-0 on the year and post her second shutout in as many games. Her counterpart for New Haven, Keira Integlia, made eight saves under constant pressure all day.
West Chester hits the road for the first time in 2022 next Saturday with a non-league tilt at Adelphi at 3 p.m. The game is a rematch of the NCAA First Round game last November in West Chester.
