Wenger's Second Half Goal Leads West Chester Past Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG, Pa.-Trailing by a pair of goals midway through the second half, West Chester (7-1-0, 4-0-0) scored three unanswered goals in under 10 minutes, capped off by a goal in the 72nd minute from Landon Wenger (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) off an assist from Tommy Bodenschatz (Royersford, Pa./Spring Ford) to complete the comeback and lift the Golden Rams to a 3-2 road, comeback victory over Bloomsburg (4-2-1, 0-1-1).

West Chester trailed for much of the first almost 70 minutes of the match after the Huskies opened the scoring just minutes into the contest but a three-goal run, which started in the 63rd minute with an Andrew Markopoulos (Drexel Hill, Pa./Bonner & Prendergast) and concluded with Wenger's heroics in the 72nd minute enabled the visiting Golden Rams to erase the deficit and earn three critical points on the road on Saturday afternoon.

Bloomsburg wasted little time opening the scoring, notching the first goal of the contest in the fourth minute with a shot in front to take an early 1-0 lead over the Golden Rams.

Bloomsburg carried this one-goal lead into the halftime break despite shots being nearly even at 7-6 and corners tied at 2-2 heading into the halftime break.

Bloomsburg extended its lead in the second half with a goal in the 54th minute to take a seemingly comfortable 2-0 lead.

Andrew Markopoulos (Drexel Hill, Pa./Bonner & Prendergast) sparked the comeback effort with a successful PK goal in the 63rd minute before AJ Peev (Chalftont, Pa./C.B. South) scored off an assist from Phil Udo-Inyang (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) in the 69th minute to even the score at 2-2.

After Wenger broke the tie in the 72nd minute, Bloomsburg resumed applying pressure to the Golden Ram defense, outshooting the Purple and Gold over the next 10 minutes but Daniel Good (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) was up to the task, making a critical save in the 82nd minute. Good made another huge play in the final seconds of regulation following a late, deep Bloomsburg throw, rising above the crowd on the near post, and securing the ball to snuff out the final attempt by Bloomsburg to even the score as time expired.

All told, Good made three big saves while his counterpart finished with six saves of his own to keep his side in the game throughout. After being outshot in the first half, West Chester ended the game with a 15-13 lead in shots and a 9-5 lead in shots on goal while also ending the game with a 3-2 lead in corner kicks.
