BLOOMSBURG, Pa.- Kaitlynn Haughey (Philadelphia, Pa./Penn Charter) scored the eventual game-winning goal while also adding an assist on the first goal of the contest to help lead West Chester (3-0, 2-0) to a 3-1 road victory over Bloomsburg (3-1, 1-1) on Saturday evening.
In the first half, West Chester applied consistent pressure to the Bloomsburg defense, outshooting the Huskies 7-2 through the first 45 minutes, which eventually paid dividends late in the half, allowing West Chester to carry a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
Julia Raybold (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) gave West Chester its first lead of the game just before the halftime horn, burying the ball in the bottom left of the goal off a feed from Haughey to give the Golden Rams a 1-0 lead heading into the break.
West Chester began the second half applying pressure on the Huskies' defense, taking three shots on Bloomsburg goalie, Riley Spingler, in the first five minutes.
Haughey scored the eventual game-winner in the 56th minute off an assist from
Victoria Pungello (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial), extending the Golden Ram lead to 2-0 nearing the midway point of the second half.
With just one shot on goal through the first 70 minutes of action, Bloomsburg began to apply pressure to the Golden Ram defense as the game neared its conclusion, beginning with a shot off a corner in the 71
st minute, which was blocked on the way but Bloomsburg did manage to find the back of the net just seconds later when Amanda Stoll sent when into the upper left of the goal off an assist from Aubrey Hondros to trim the deficit to 2-1 entering the late stages of the contest.
With just minutes left in the match,
Alyson Cutter (Warrington, PA/Central Bucks South) shot from the left of the box and tallied the third and final goal for the Golden Rams, giving the visitors a 3-1 lead, which they would go on to win by.
West Chester ended the contest with a 15-7 advantage in shots and a 7-2 lead in shots on goal, however, Bloomsburg was able to end the match with a narrow 8-6 advantage in corners. In goal
Hayley McGee (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) made one save to slow the Bloomsburg offense while Bloomsburg keeper Riley Spingler made four saves of her own to keep her side in the game throughout the evening.
