WEST CHESTER, PA – "You cannot step into the same river twice," is a quote from Heraclitus, the ancient Greek Philosopher, that West Chester University's men's swimming & diving program has dissected in the preseason. A more recent philosopher, David Bowie, once sang, "Ch-ch-ch-ch- changes. Turn and face the strange."
Head coach
Steve Mazurek embarks on another season with the same goal – win the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship - but with a few new swimmers and some veteran swimmers asked to fill more significant roles both in the pool and in the locker room.
Why not? The Golden Rams have brought home the blue trophy each of the last 23 times that the school has entered the PSAC Championship Meet at the end of the year and 34 times altogether. What might surprise you though is the way in which Mazurek goes about preparing his swimmers for each campaign. In a recent conversation with him, the phrase, "… the splits and times will come later. Don't worry about that," was uttered constantly – almost like he was convincing this writer that taking care of oneself and one's body was the first step to success.
Saturday, West Chester's men's swimming and diving programs hit the water opposite a pair of familiar foes in PSAC rival Shippensburg and regional contender Southern Connecticut State University at 12 p.m. at Graham Natatorium on South Campus. The meet will be web streamed by Sports Fan Base Network (SFBN)
