Men's Swimming and Diving Falls to NYU

NEW YORK, N.Y.-
The West Chester University men's swimming and diving squad returned to action on Saturday afternoon for its second meet of the young season against New York University (NYU) inside the Palladium Athletic Facility. West Chester battled throughout the afternoon but fell to its hosts by a 173-125 final on Saturday afternoon.

West Chester started the afternoon with a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay as the foursome of Dalton Fink (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts), Nolan Benner (Green Lane, Pa./Boyertown), Gabe Laslo (Wind Gap, Pa./Nazareth), and Devin Metzger (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) teamed together to finish in 1 minute and 33.22 seconds.

Paul Demesy (Saint Ulrich, France) picked up the first win of the afternoon for West Chester, capturing the 1000 free in a time of 9:33.39 before finishing second in the 500 free late in the afternoon with a time of 4:39.71.

Daniel Dunigan (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) finished second in the 200 free, finishing in a time of 1:43.35, while Fink took second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 52.07 seconds.

Benner finished second in the 100 breaststroke, touching the wall in 57.86 seconds with a new season-best before Laslo gave West Chester its second victory of the afternoon in the 200 butterfly, finishing in a time of 1:56.04. Ben Desclous (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) also turned in a strong swim in the 200 fly, touching the wall in 1:56.19.

Metzger picked up a second-place finish of his own in the 100 free, finishing in 46.64 seconds, while teammate Aidan Faikish (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) finished second in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:10.66.

West Chester took the top three spots in the 500 free as Dunnigan won the event in 4:39.07, while Demesy was second, followed by Max Bachman (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn)  in third in 4:51.46.
West Chester ended the day with another victory as the quartet of Desclous, Metzger, Dunnigan, and Benner captured the 400 free relay in a thrilling race with a time of 3:06.07.

West Chester also captured the top two spots in the one-meter diving competition as Tyler Czeiner (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) won with a score of 232.73, while Boden Burkhart (Walnutport, Pa./Northampton) was second with a score of 214.73. Berkhart also finished second off the three-meter board, registering a score of 215.85.
