SHIPPENSBURG, Pa.- Peter Tichy (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) scored the eventual game-winner in the 40
th minute and the West Chester University men's soccer team (9-2-3, 6-1-2 ) never looked back en route to a 2-0 victory over Shippensburg (4-6-2, 1-6-1) on the road on Wednesday afternoon.
In addition to avenging its setback against the Raiders from earlier this season, West Chester's victory also allowed the Golden Rams to keep pace atop the PSAC East standings, entering the final two weeks of the regular season. West Chester will at least temporarily take a three-point lead in the PSAC East standings as fellow Eastern Division leader Millersville is not in action today. The Marauders return to action on Saturday against East Stroudsburg, while the Golden Rams enjoy a well-deserved Saturday off before welcoming the Marauders to Rockwell next Wednesday afternoon.
Daniel Good (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) made one first-half save to earn the shutout and victory on Wednesday afternoon, which also led to the senior keeper tying Andrew Shafer's program record for wins with his 40th career victory in goal for the Golden Rams.
Tichy found the back of the net late in the first half for West Chester, using a well-placed pass from sophomore
Owen Slack (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) to give the visiting Golden Rams an early 1-0 lead.
West Chester doubled its lead just over 12 minutes into the second half when
Ian Alicea (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) found the back of the net off another assist from Slack, giving the Golden Rams a comfortable 2-0 lead for the final 32 minutes of action.
West Chester ended the game with a 27-7 lead in shots and a 10-1 lead in shots on goal to go along with a 13-1 advantage in corner kicks in a convincing victory for head coach
Michael Benn's side.
Cody Willoughby played well for Shippensburg on Wednesday afternoon, making seven big saves to try and keep his team in the match throughout the afternoon.
