MILLERSVILLE, PA – Senior outside hitter
Tori Wright (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) picked up her 1,000th collegiate kill, but host Millersville cruised to a 3-0 sweep over visiting West Chester inside Pucillo Gym in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) women's volleyball match Wednesday night.
The Golden Rams (8-10, 2-6 PSAC East) opened their second round of the conference slate Wednesday. The Marauders (8-12, 2-6) earned a season split of its series with West Chester with a 25-22, 25-23 and 27-25 victory.
Wright subbed into the first set of the match with the score tied at 2-2. Her milestone kill was West Chester's third point of the match and drew them within one at 4-3. Of her 1,000 kills in college, 393 have come at West Chester over the past two years. She spent her first two seasons in college at University of the Sciences, transferring in after the school discontinued volleyball.
Wright finished the night with a team-high 10 kills.
Megan St. Jean (Eaton, Colo./Eaton) posted 21 assists and
Lexy Caltabiano (Woolwich, Twp., N.J./Gloucester County Institute of Technology) had 15 digs.
Sydney Heffner (Bath, Pa./Northampton) added 14 digs.
The Golden Rams, who hit .139 in the opening set, improved to .349 in the second, but still dropped the set. In the third, West Chester was leading 24-23 late. But, Millersville rallied for two consecutive points to jump ahead 25-24. A Marauders' attack error leveled the score. However, the home team rallied with two straight points to close out the match.
West Chester steps out of conference on Saturday for a 1 p.m. showdown with Lincoln University on the road.
