LOCK HAVEN, PA – R-Fr., RB
Dayshawn Jacobs (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) rushed for 112 yards and three touchdowns as visiting West Chester put together a solid fourth quarter en route to a 42-27 victory over host Lock Haven at Hubert Jack Stadium Saturday afternoon.
Jacobs' 112 yards was the first 100-yard effort by a running back in a game this season for West Chester (5-4, 3-3 PSAC East). Lock Haven (4-5, 2-4) was held to just 10 points after halftime in the loss.
Jacobs scored on runs of 7 yards and 5 yards in the fourth quarter as the Golden Rams ran a combined 15 plays and killed a little over eight minutes of the frame on the two drives. That alone left the Bald Eagles with little time to do anything offensively in the final 15.
West Chester clung to a 28-24 lead after the third quarter thanks to a miscue from Lock Haven deep in its own end. The Golden Rams jumped on a Bald Eagles fumble at its own 28-yard line, and six plays later, QB
Cooper Jordan (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) scooted into the end zone from 5 yards out to make it 28-17.
Lock Haven answered right back with a 5-yard TD pass on the ensuing drive that was highlighted by a 65-yard run from scrimmage by LHU RB Chris Collier, who finished the day with a game-high 209 yards rushing and a score. The Bald Eagles mustered just a 36-yard field goal from Brett Zachman the rest of the way. It was Zachman's second field goal of the afternoon. His first was a 57-yarder that broke both the school and conference record.
Daquan Robinson (Philadelphia, Pa./Northeast) caught a 20-yard TD pass from
Ethan Kohler (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) with 33 seconds left in the first half that put the Golden Rams up 21-17 at the break. Kohler engineered a two-minute drill to near perfection to walk West Chester 72 yards in 7 plays in just 1:22. That TD was the fifth lead change of the first half. But, the Golden Rams never relinquished that lead in the second half.
Jordan opened the scoring with six minutes left in the first quarter on a 19-yard scamper for his first of two TD runs on the day. West Chester scored five rushing touchdowns in the game altogether. Jacobs busted over the goal line from one yard out early in the second for the first of his three scores that gave WCU a 14-10 lead.
Kohler was 9-for-11 for 148 yards and a touchdown under center while Jordan finished 7 of 11 for 144 and an interception. He added 43 rushing yards on 11 carries and the two scores to complement Jacob's career day.
Rahiem Bowens (Lansdowne, Pa./Penn Wood) led all receivers in the game with six catches. He had 86 yards receiving.
Defensively, CB
Victor Pena (York, Pa./Central York) led the team with seven tackles. He recovered that fumble at the Lock Haven 28 that led to Jordan's second TD run. He also blocked a field goal attempt by Lock Haven and had an interception negated by a defensive holding penalty.
Khalib Slaughter (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) also had seven tackles, including a pair of sacks and a forced fumble. He was credited with a total of three tackles for a loss and had a QB hurry.
West Chester returns home next Saturday to take on Kutztown University at 12 p.m. at John A. Farrell Stadium.
