SHIPPENSBURG, PA – Host Shippensburg scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth to break a tie and continue on to a 15-10 victory over visiting West Chester at cold and rainy with a wintery mix Fairchild Field Friday afternoon.
West Chester (10-4, 2-1 PSAC East) had scored three in the top of the seventh to knot the game at 10-apiece. However, Shippensburg (13-7, 1-2) rallied in the eighth to salvage the last game of a three-game series.
John DeMucci (Swarthmore, Pa./Msgr. Bonner & Prendie) had three hits in the loss. He went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI and two runs scored. He was a home run shy of the cycle.
Luke Cantwell (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) hit a two-run triple and scored two runs in the game.
Shippensburg took full advantage of a six-run fifth and a five-run eighth to come from behind in the win. The Raiders' bats, which were quieted for much of Thursday's doubleheader in West Chester, exploded for 15 runs on 12 hits. The Golden Rams mustered 10 runs on just six hits. A combined 20 walks were issued in the game and four batters were hit in the cold weather.
Right-handed freshman hurler,
Nick Noga (Avondale, Pa./Avon Grove) suffered the loss in relief.
West Chester returns home next Tuesday to take on Jefferson at Serpico Stadium at 2 p.m.
