Softball Rolls to Sweep of Mansfield

WEST CHESTER, Pa.-Playing in its second PSAC East doubleheader in three days as a result of a rain-filled weekend, West Chester (15-10, 3-1) returned to action on Monday morning vs Mansfield (9-9, 0-6). West Chester took game one by a 6-0 final behind a masterful pitching performance by Danielle Ciliberto (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) before rolling to a 11-0 win in the nightcap in five innings.

Game One: WCU 6 Mansfield 0

West Chester and Mansfield each got early base runners in the first inning, but neither team was able to do anything with them, sending the game to the second still scoreless.

West Chester scratched across its first runs of the game in the third, capitalizing on a series of defensive miscues by the Mounties, including a pair of passed balls to take a 2-0 lead into the fourth.
West Chester extended its lead in the fourth via an RBI triple by Meg Wolfe (Pine rove, Pa./Pine Grove) and an RBI double from Casey Best (Wilmington, Del./Concord) to make it a 4-0 Golden Ram lead.

Hailey Melvin (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca) led off the fifth with a single and later scored on a wild pitch with two outs in the frame to give the Golden Rams a 5-0 lead.
Olivia Mock (Clifton, Va./Paul V) singled home another run in the sixth to give West Chester a 6-0 lead.

Danielle Ciliberto (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) (5-2) was tremendous in the circle, tossing the full seven innings while setting a career-high with eight strikeouts while scattering three hits and one walk for her fifth win of the season.

Danielle Goff (5-4) pitched well for Mansfield as well, scattering five runs (three earned) on six hits and four walks while striking out six in five innings of work. Sarah Sherman entered in relief and worked what would prove to be the final inning, allowing one run on one hit and a pair of walks in the setback.

Game Two: WCU 11 Mansfield 0

Similarly to the first game, Mansfield got an early base runner in the first inning, but Antonia Browning (Newark, Del./Charter School of Wilmington) (1-3) worked around the early runner to keep the game scoreless.

Katelyn Rittenbaugh (Donaldson, Pa./Pine Grove) put West Chester ahead early with an RBI single to center, which scored Madison Melvin (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca), who had walked to open the inning. Hailey Melvin followed this up with an RBI single of her own to give West Chester a 2-0 lead before a double steal scored Grace Aguilar (Frederica, Del./Lake Forest) to make it a 3-0 lead.  Cyd Keidaisch (Pottstown, Pa./Boyertown) added to the lead with an RBI single of her own, pushing the advantage to 4-0. Best extended the lead again with a three-run blast over the left field fence to give West Chester a commanding 7-0 lead.

Mock extended the lead in the second with an RBI double, which plated Melvin and gave the Golden Rams an 8-0 lead.

West Chester tacked on two more runs in the fourth thanks to a two-RBI single by Aguilar. West Chester added another on a passed ball to take an 11-0 lead into the fifth

Browning pitched well in the nightcap, picking up her first win of the year as she tossed five shutout innings, allowing just one hit while striking out three in the victory.
