No. 1 West Chester Defeats Shippensburg

WEST CHESTER, PAHannah Stanislawczyk (Mohnton, Pa./Gov. Mifflin) scored a game-high four goals and was one of three players with five points on the day as host West Chester defeated visiting Shippensburg in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference women's lacrosse match at sun-drenched Vonnie Gros Field Wednesday.
 
West Chester (12-0, 7-0 PSAC East) began its wrap-around portion of the 2023 slate with its second win over Shippensburg (1-12, 0-8). The Golden Rams jumped out in front early rode a stellar defensive effort to the team's first shutout since 2011, which came in the form of a 21-0 victory. It marked the 12th shutout in all of Division II this spring.
 
Stanislawczyk added an assist to her four-goal outing. She also grabbed two draw controls and two ground balls. Both Lindsey Monigle (Rehoboth Beach, Del./Cape Henlopen) and Meg O'Donnell (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland) finished with two goals and three assists for five points each as well. Madeline Edinger (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) had a hat trick off the bench.
 
West Chester's defense forced Shippensburg into 24 turnovers on the day, directly causing 15 of those miscues. Courtney Medwin (Coral Springs, Fla./American Heritage) led the way with four caused turnovers while Grace Frasso (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) added three.
 
Shippensburg only attempted 10 shots in the game, and three West Chester goalkeepers only needed to make one save as the Raiders missed the cage on nine opportunities. Ellie Hughes (Abington, Pa./Abington) recorded the lone save for the Golden Rams in the fourth quarter.
 
West Chester heads to Bloomsburg on Saturday for its next PSAC showdown with the Huskies at Steph Pettit Stadium.
