Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

No. 1 West Chester Tops Bloomsburg in Completion of Saturday’s Game, 18-8

BLOOMSBURG, PAHannah Stanislawczyk (Mohnton, Pa./Gov. Mifflin) scored five goals, and Keri Barnett (Glenolden, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) netted four as top-ranked West Chester traveled back to Bloomsburg on Sunday afternoon to complete its contest started on Saturday, but halted due to lightning and weather moving through the area.

The Golden Rams (13-0, 8-0 PSAC East) came out victorious, 18-8, to remain unbeaten on the season as well as in conference play. The Huskies (6-8, 3-6) dropped their second straight league contest.

With Saturday's game suspended in the first quarter with 6:35 to play and the game knotted at 2-2, West Chester and Bloomsburg returned to the turf at Steph Pettit Stadium Sunday. The Golden Rams came out firing, scoring three goals in a two-minute span in the remainder of the first to take a 5-2 lead. Head coach Ginny Martino's squad posted another seven tallies in the second quarter and held an insurmountable 12-6 lead heading into the locker rooms.

"The three goals at the end of the first quarter set the tone for the rest of the day," Martino said afterwards. "However, another big factor was killing a (player) down situation which we had to do when the game re-started today. We did a great job of maintaining possession for most of the remainder of that card and keeping (Bloomsburg) off the scoreboard. Those three goals followed that kill. It was a great way to come out of the gate today."

Julia Littlewood (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) and Barnett scored 51 seconds apart at the beginning of the second quarter, and that little five-goal spurt was all West Chester needed to gain full control of the match. Bloomsburg notched three of the next four markers to draw within three (8-5). However, that would be as close as the home team would get the rest of the day. In fact, the Huskies only scored twice in the second half.

Meg O'Donnell (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland) registered a hat trick in the third quarter, accounting for three of West Chester's five tallies during that 15-minute session. That run put the Golden Rams up 17-7 heading into the fourth.

Stanislawczyk finished with six points (5 goals, 1 assist) while both Barnett and O'Donnell notched four. O'Donnell had one assist on the day. Littlewood posted four points (2G, 2A) and Lindsay Monigle (Rehoboth Beach, Del./Cape Henlopen) put up five points (2G, 3A).

Senior goalkeeper Jessica Gorr (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) shined brightly on a defense that was absolutely stifling – especially after halftime. She tied her career high with 15 saves in the two-day contest. The unit in front of her was just as spectacular. Kendall DiCamillo (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) was credited with six ground balls and six caused turnovers – both career bests – as the Golden Rams finished with 22 ground balls altogether and 15 caused turnovers.

Over the last two games, West Chester's stellar defensive unit has caused 33 turnovers while opponents have cleared just 24 of 39 attempts, and most importantly, only scored eight goals.

"They are a tough and determined bunch," Martino commented about her defense. "They are doing a great job of adapting to what our opponents are throwing at them, and they are shutting down oppponent's top scoring threats.

"Jess (Gorr) is obviously a big part of the success they are finding back there. But, they are all meshing really well and getting stronger and stronger each game."

Bloomsburg was led offensively by Haley Williams (2G) and Kelsey Clauss (1G, 2A). The Huskies originally scored the first two goals of the game on Saturday. Madison Coyle's tally 1:17  into the contest ended a scoreless streak of 65:48 by West Chester's defense and its goalkeepers.

West Chester travels to East Stroudsburg on Wednesday for another showdown with the Warriors at Whitenight Field. Faceoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
