WEST CHESTER, PA - Rising Jr. WR
D'Shaun Seals (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) hauled in a 99-yard touchdown reception from rising So., QB
Cooper Jordan (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) as Purple defeated Gold, 12-7, in a shortened Spring Football Game on a blistery, rainy evening at John A. Farrell Stadium Friday night.
The two sides played just one half due to the wet weather. But, that did not seem to deter the Purple squad from testing the airways. Dressed in the purple tops and purple pants, Jordan took his offensive unit out onto the field for their second offensive possession, which started at their own 1-yard line. Following a run that went nowhere, Jordan found Seals streaking down the sideline at the 44. The speedy receiver hauled in the pass, broke a tackle and raced the rest of the 55 yards for the score that made it a 6-0 game.
Gold struck back on a 6-yard pass from rising sophomore QB
Ethan Kohler (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) to freshman TE
Alex Checchia (Southampton, Pa./Council Rock South) in the back of the end zone.
In the second quarter, rising junior WR
Seth Degree (Philadelphia, Pa./West Catholic) hooked up with Jordan on a 26-yard TD pass-and-catch for Purple with 1:48 left in the game.
Jordan finished the game 4-for-11 for 150 yards and the two touchdowns. He also rushed seven times for 29 yards. Degree caught two passes on four targets for 36 yards and the one score.
Defensively, Purple was led by
Kaleb Brown's (Reading, Pa./Wilson) and
Khalib Slaughter's (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) five tackles each.
Marcus Williams (Easton, Pa./Easton) intercepted a pass and returned it 30 yards to ice the game on Gold's final drive of the night.
For Gold, the running game shined.
Daquan Robinson (Philadelphia, Pa./Northeast) carried the ball seven times for 48 yards while
Dayshawn Jacobs (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) rushed for 44 yards on 10 carries.
Stanley Bryant (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) led Gold's defense with five tackles.
Ben Marsico (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) had an interception.
