First Half Goal Leads No. 12 West Chester to Road Victory over Mansfield

MANSFIELD, Pa.- Faith Matter (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) scored the first and only goal of the game just over 10 minutes into the contest to lift the 12th-ranked West Chester University women's soccer team (3-1-1, 3-1-0) to a 1-0 victory over Mansfield on Saturday afternoon.

Continuing its trend of scoring early in victories, West Chester notched its first goal of the contest in the 11th minute when Jaqueline Hug (West Chester, Pa./Unionville) found Matter for her third goal of the season, giving the visitors an early 1-0 lead.

West Chester controlled the game throughout the remainder of regulation, ending the contest with a 22-6 lead in shots and a 9-2 lead in shots on goal to go along with a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Samantha Merklin was on point throughout the day for Mansfield, making eight big saves to keep the Mounties in the game throughout the afternoon.

For West Chester, Grace Keen (Lincoln University, Pa./Avon Grove) turned in another strong performance between the pipes, making a pair of saves to help West Chester pick up its third PSAC shutout victory of the young season.
