Shippensburg Shuts Out West Chester, 2-0

WEST CHESTER, PA – Fifth-ranked Shippensburg scored a pair of goals in the first half and then made that stand up en route to a 2-0 shutout over third-ranked West Chester on a gorgeous Wednesday afternoon at Vonnie Gros Field.

West Chester (4-2) was blanked for the first time this season and the first time since the 2021 National Championship Game – also against Shippensburg (5-2) – which spanned 25 games.

Yasmin De Mayer opened the scoring in the fourth minute with a nice reverse chip off a feed from Agus Garibaldi. Garibaldi then doubled the lead when she stole the ball at the top of the circle in the 20th minute, stepped inside and let one rip to the left of West Chester goalkeeper Emerie Loftis (Glen Allen, Va./Trinity Episcopal).

That was all the Raiders needed as their goalkeeper, Emma Albee, turned away all seven shots on goal by the Golden Rams, including a diving blocker save of a shot by West Chester's Cameron Smith (Lewes, Del./Cape Henlopen) with about 6:30 to play in the third quarter.

Loftis (2-1) made six saves in the cage for West Chester in a solid performance.

West Chester had a flurry of penalty corner opportunities in the fourth quarter, but could not get one past Albee.

West Chester travels to Slippery Rock on Saturday for a noon start against The Rock.
