MILLERSVILLE, PA – Host Millersville ended 19 years of futility to visiting West Chester with a 23-14 victory over the Golden Rams at wet Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division opener Saturday afternoon.
West Chester (2-2, 0-1 PSAC East) struggled defensively once again as Millersville (3-1, 1-0) running back Jaheim Morris rushed for 177 yards and a touchdown to lead the Marauders to their first win over the Golden Rams since 2002.
Cooper Jordan (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) was sacked six times and threw two interceptions as he was chased all over the field by Millersville's defensive unit. He threw for just 85 yards in completing 7 of 19 passes.
West Chester mounted a comeback of sorts in the second half with a pair of long touchdown plays.
Trey Blair (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) raced 80 yards for a score in the third quarter, and
Rahiem Bowens (Lansdowne, Pa./Penn Wood) caught a 62-yard TD pass from Jordan in the fourth to make it 23-14. But, that was as close as the Golden Rams got the rest of the way.
A disastrous first half had West Chester trailing 16-0 at the break, and it proved too much from which to come back.
Connor Noble (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East) led all tacklers with a season-high 17 stops. He also broke up two passes.
Khalib Slaughter (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) had 16 tackles.
West Chester returns home next Saturday for a Homecoming/Family Weekend league tilt against Bloomsburg. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
