WILMINGTON, Del. – The West Chester University women's volleyball team (6-4) returned to action on Wednesday evening for a non-league matchup at Wilmington. West Chester battled throughout the evening but fell to Wilmington by a 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-21) final, halting a four-match winning streak for the Purple and Gold.
In the first set, West Chester and Wilmington traded points throughout the early going before the visiting Golden Rams surged ahead to a 15-11 lead, following a 6-0 run, which included a pair of kills and two aces by
Tori Wright (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion). Wilmington countered with a run of its own, going on an 11-1 run to take a 22-16 lead, which helped the hosts withstand a late surge by the Golden Rams to take the opening set by a 25-20 final.
West Chester and Wilmington traded points throughout the entirety of the second set, but the host Wildcats closed the set on a 5-1 run to earn a 25-22 second-set victory over the Golden Rams, carrying a 2-0 lead into the third set.
The third set followed a nearly identical script to the opening two sets as the two sides traded points and small runs throughout before Wilmington escaped with another narrow victory (25-21) to take the match by a 3-0 final.

Sydney Heffner (Bath, Pa./Northampton) became the latest Golden Ram to reach a milestone, recording her 1,000th career dig with a team-best 24 in the setback on Wednesday night.
Zoe Haines (York, Pa./York Suburban) led the way in kills for West Chester, finishing with seven, while
Hannah Robson (Waxhaw, N.C./Arborbrook Christian) led the team in aces with four in the setback. Byrne led the way in assists, finishing with 14, while sophomore teammate
Megan St. Jean (Eaton, Co./Eaton) added 12 assists of her own to go along with seven digs in the Golden Rams first road match of the season.
Brice Hansen led Wilmington, finishing with 11 kills, 12 digs, and a pair of aces, while Elly Collins led the Wildcats in digs with 25. Katie Bushong also turned in a strong night for Wilmington, finishing the match with 24 assists and 13 digs to help her squad hold off the Golden Rams.
