ERIE, PA – West Chester University registered its second shutout in three games with a 3-0 blanking over Mercyhurst on the road in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) field hockey contest Saturday afternoon at Saxon Stadium in Western Pa.
West Chester (7-2, 3-0 PSAC) remains unbeaten in league play with the win over Mercyhurst (2-7, 0-4).
Paige Wolfe (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) got things going late in the first quarter when her blast from the right side beat Mercyhurst goalkeeper Kayla Desormeau through the five-hole giving the Golden Rams a 1-0 lead.
Jasmine Miller (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor) scored her nation's-leading 13th goal of the season in the final minute of the third quarter that doubled the Golden Rams' leading heading into the fourth quarter.
Adriana Palumbo (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) added an insurance tally with about three minutes remaining in the game.
Emerie Loftis (Glen Allen, Va./Trinity Episcopal) made one save in the first half and and that was all she had to do to preserve the shutout.
West Chester travels to Shippensburg on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. start against the No. 2 Raiders at Robb Sports Complex. The two teams met earlier this year in a non-conference tilt with Shippensburg claiming a 2- victory.
