SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.V.- The West Chester University men's soccer team (8-5-2, 5-3-0) returned to action on Saturday afternoon at Shepherd (4-8-2, 2-6-0) for the second game of its season series against the Rams. West Chester found itself behind early in the first half and could not crack the Ram defense throughout the afternoon as Shepherd held on for the 1-0 upset victory.
Andrew West gave Shepherd a 1-0 lead just four minutes into the first half on Saturday afternoon, and the Rams made this hold up for a surprising 1-0 victory over the visiting Golden Rams on Saturday.
Finding itself behind by one early, West Chester went to work, trying to find the equalizer, and the Golden Rams ended the first half with an 11-5 lead in shots and a 4-3 lead in shots on goal, but Aidan Houck appeared up to the task, making four saves to keep the one-goal lead intact heading into the break.
In the second half, West Chester continued to search for its tying and perhaps winning goal. Still, Houck continued his excellent afternoon, making two more saves to stymie the usually dangerous, high-powered WCU offense.
Despite the one-goal loss, West Chester ended the game with a 19-11 lead in shots, a 6-5 lead in shots on goal, and a 4-2 lead in corner kicks, but it was not enough to avoid the upset.
