LOCK HAVEN, Pa.- Anna Richardson (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) posted a team-high eight kills to help lead the West Chester University women's volleyball team (8-6, 2-0) to a 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-17) victory over Lock Haven (2-8, 0-2) on Friday evening.
Lock Haven jumped out to a 14-7 lead early in the first set before West Chester went on a 10-3 run to even the opening set at 17-17.
Zoe Haines (York, Pa./York Suburban) gave West Chester an 18-17 lead, but the two sides continued to trade points, and the match was tied at 19-19 late in the first set. West Chester won six of the next points, three in a row, to end the set, closing it out with an
Anna Richardson (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) kill to claim the opener by a 25-20 final.
In the second set, Haines helped West Chester jump out to an 8-4 lead early in the set before the Bald Eagles scored five of the next six points to tie the set at 9-9. West Cheser went on another 11-6 run to take a 20-15 lead late in the set. Lock Haven refused to go quietly in the second, going on another run, which gave the hosts a 24-23 lead late in the second set. Eager to get out to a 2-0 lead in the match, West Chester closed the set on a 3-0 run thanks in part to another kill by Haines and an ace by
Lacie Brown (Cochranville, Pa./Avon Grove), which lifted West Chester to a 26-24 second set victory and a 2-0 lead in the match.
West Chester and Lock Haven continued to trade points throughout the third set, but the Golden Rams got out to a 21-15 lead entering the late stages of the third set, prompting a timeout by the host Bald Eagles. The timeout did its job nicely, halting a 4-1 run by the Golden Rams, but
Amanda Redding (San Marino, Cal./San Marino) prevented Lock Haven from getting on a run of its own with a quick kill, which extended the lead to 23-16. West Chester closed out the match quickly from this point, winning three of the next four points, including a kill by Brown to give the Golden Rams the third set by a 25-17 final.
Brown finished with six kills in the victory while also leading the team in assists with 27, along with two aces. Brown was one of three Golden Rams with two aces in the victory, as
Sydney Heffner (Bath, Pa./Northampton) and
Macey Baum (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) finished with two each. Heffner's two aces allowed her to move into a tie for 11
th in team history in aces with 157 as she matched Lisa Campbell, who recorded 157 of her own during her Golden Ram career from 2008-2011.
Heffner also led West Chester in digs, finishing with 14 in the victory.
Gracelynn Wolzen led Lock Haven in kills with eight, while Kelly Gaston registered 22 assists in the setback, and Natalie Acevedo recorded a match-high 20 digs.
