Last Time Out

West Chester took to the road on Saturday afternoon to square off against Bloomsburg in search of a victory to improve its PSAC Tournament aspirations and come within a win of clinching a top-two seed in the Tournament. West Chester dominated the game throughout the evening, ending it with a 24-9 lead in shots and a 12-3 lead in shots on goal, but it was a mid-first-half goal by Bloomsburg that made the difference as the Huskies held on for a 1-0 victory.

Flock Talk

Alyson Cutter (Warrington, Pa./C.B. South) remains the league leader in goals with 12 and is second in points with 25, trailing only Lydia Gable of Shepherd, who is first in the league in scoring with 27 points on 10 goals and seven assists. Faith Matter (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) is first in the league in assists with 11 and is sixth in points as the reigning PSAC East Player of the Year is tied for fourth in the league in points with six.

Grace Keen (Lincoln University, Pa./Avon Grove) is in the midst of another fine season in goal, playing to a record of 9-5-1 with eight shutouts and a 0.83 goals-against average.

Cutter’s Edge

Cutter is in the midst of a tremendous senior season, which included two hat tricks in three games for the senior forward. Cutter became just the fifth WCU player to record a hat trick and the first since 2015 when she did so against Mansfield earlier in October before becoming the first to score two in the same season in an October 27 Senior Day victory over Lock Haven.

The Playoff Picture

West Chester still needs a victory to secure a spot in the PSAC Tournament. If West Chester can win each of its last two matchups, including a date with Shepherd in the regular-season finale, the Golden Rams will secure the second seed in the PSAC Tournament and host rights for a PSAC Quarterfinal on Tuesday, November 12.

Series History

West Chester holds a 25-11-3 lead in the all-time series vs Millersville dating back to 1994 when West Chester opened the rivalry with a 4-0 victory over the Marauders. West Chester has won five of the last seven meetings between the two sides, although the Marauders have won at least one game in each of the last two seasons. West Chester has not been swept by Millersville since a pair of setbacks in September 2004.

When the two rivals met earlier this season, Millersville broke open a scoreless game with three goals in the first 12 minutes of the second half, including a goal by two of its leading scorers in, Aubrey Strohecker and Isabel Coy. Coy’s 52nd-minute tally, which came off an assist from Strohecker, served as the eventual game-winner. Kaitlynn Haughey (Philadelphia, Pa./Penn Charter) tried to bring the Golden Rams back with a goal in the 82nd minute, but it was not enough to erase the three-goal deficit as the Golden Rams by a 3-1 final.

Scouting Millersville

Millersville enters play with a record of 6-4-5 overall and 5-4-5 in league play after playing to draws in each of its last two games, a 2-2 draw against East Stroudsburg on October 26 and a 1-1 draw at Shippensburg last Wednesday night. These draws come as part of a winless streak, which has the Marauders searching for their first victory since a 5-0 win over Mansfield on October 12 on Senior Day.

At Shippensburg, Aalivia Wainwright gave the Marauders a halftime lead with a goal in the 32nd minute. They appeared on pace for their first win since October 12, but a 90th-minute goal by Ashton Gonzalez halted this notion and led to an important 1-1 draw.

Aubrey Strohecker leads Millersville in scoring with six goals and five assists for 17 points, while Isabel Coy is a close second with seven goals and two assists for 16 points on the season. In goal, Sabrina Zimmerman has been sharp for Millersville, playing to a record of 6-4-2 with two shutouts and a 1.20 goals-against average.
