WEST CHESTER, PA –
Madeline Edinger (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) notched a career-high four goals and six points to lead third-ranked West Chester University to a 19-6 victory over visiting Jefferson University in the 2024 season opener at Vonnie Gros Field Wednesday.
Five different Golden Rams posted at least five points in the win. Midfielders
Hannah Stanislawczyk (Mohnton, Pa./Gov. Mifflin) and
Keri Barnett (Glenolden, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) joined Edinger with a game-high four goals. They both added an assist as well. Grad student,
Jess Harrison (Fort Collins, Colo./Poudre) scored three times and tacked on a pair of assists in her West Chester debut.
West Chester jumped out to a 4-0 lead, on the strength of four different goal-scorers, and never looked back. Jefferson stopped the bleeding with its first tally over eight minutes into the contest. However, the hosts rattled off five more unanswered markers to take a 9-2 lead. Harrison's goal seven seconds before halftime made it 10-2 heading into the locker rooms.
The Golden Rams scored six goals with an extra attacker – the most EMO goals West Chester has scored in a single game in a long time. Two of the home team's last three goals were with an extra player on the field.
Meg O'Donnell (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland) equaled her career high with four assists. Three of those helpers came in the fourth quarter when the Golden Rams put the game away. She also scored a goal making her the fifth West Chester player with five points Wednesday.
Jefferson's freshman goalkeeper played well in her college debut. She was credited with 10 saves in the loss. West Chester's All-America keeper,
Jessica Gorr (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) made five saves in the first half, before giving way to sophomore
Peyton Hagy (Millsboro, Del./Sussex Academy) who played 26 minutes and made two saves. Freshman
Hannah Cornelius (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) finished up the final four minutes.
Carina Raymond scored twice for Jefferson, and Ellie Lefton dished out a pair of assists for the visitors.
Lila McMahon-Skates (West Linn, Ore./West Linn) finished the day with three points (1G, 2A) for the Golden Rams.
Eliza Enriquez (Shillington, Pa./Gov. Mifflin) and
Julia Littlewood (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) each scored once as well.
Barnett's third goal of the game was the junior's 200th career point. Sophomore
Piper Hammond (Tuczon, Ariz./Southridge) scooped up five ground balls and caused three turnovers in her West Chester debut.
Grace Frasso (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) grabbed three ground balls and caused three turnovers as well.
West Chester returns home on Saturday for another non-league tilt against Mercy College at Vonnie Gros Field at 1 p.m.
