GLENVILLE, WV - West Chester plated 11 runs in the first two innings and then worked its way through a comeback bid from D'Youville to claim a 14-10 victory in a non-conference baseball game at Kenny Greenlief Field on a cold and damp Saturday evening.
The start of the game was delayed more than 90 minutes due to a wintery mix that fell earlier in the day and interrupted the two games scheduled before West Chester (2-0) and D'Youville (2-2). However, when the game finally got going, so did the Golden Rams' bats. West Chester put up 11 runs on 12 hits in all, but scored seven in the bottom of the first to chase D'Youville starter, Bryce Hediger (1-1), early in the second inning.Â
Sean Szestowicki (Mount Royal, N.J./Kingsway Regional) capped off that seven-run rally in the first with a two-run homer. He finished the day with two hits and three RBI.
Avery Spencer (Pottsgrove, Pa./Pottsgrove) finished the game 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI. He is hitting .600 (6-for-10) on the young season with nine RBI in West Chester's first two games.
Joe Kaleck (Southampton, Pa./Neshaminy) also collected a pair of hits and had an RBI.
Senior
Dylan Howanitz (Archbald, Pa./Valley View) picked up the win on the mound in relief. He tossed 2 1/3 innings and gave up three runs on two hits while walking two and striking out two.Â
West Chester returns to the diamond Sunday afternoon for a 2:30 p.m. contest against host Glenville State.
