Madison Melvin Named to PhillySIDA Academic All-Area Team

Full Release
PHILADELPHIA-
The Philadelphia Sports Information Directors Association (PhillySIDA) released its softball Academic All-Area squad earlier this week, and the Association recognized Madison Melvin (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca) for the third year in a row.

The Golden Rams standout center fielder was one of 10 student-athletes recognized by area Sports Information Directors as members of the Academic All-Area squad and was one of just four repeat selections from 2023. The group is selected by votes from 30 four-year institutions within the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

Emily McCutcheon, a sophomore pitcher for Division III Rowan, earned Performer of the Year honors after pitching to a record of 21-2 with a 1.01 ERA in 173 innings of work while holding opponents to a .220 batting average as she helped guide the Profs back to the Division III National Finals. McCutcheon made headlines nationally during the 2024 season after an incredible Division III record-setting 20-inning effort in a 1-0 shutout victory over TCNJ to open the NJAC Tournament in early May.

This is just the latest postseason honor for Melvin, who saw her record-setting career reach its conclusion in the pod final of the NCAA Atlantic Regional Tournament in Charleston, West Virginia, in mid-May. Melvin was also recognized as a First Team All-PSAC East selection while also earning both NFCA and Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-Region honors.

Melvin finished the year with a .415 batting average after recording 86 hits in 207 games, scoring 57 runs, and driving in 20 more. The graduate student swiped 44 bases on 47 attempts, leading the team. Melvin also broke WCU and PSAC records for career hits, runs, and stolen bases in 2024 while also finishing just shy of Bri Garber's single-season run-scored record and carried a 20-game hitting streak along with a 23-game on-base streak into the season finale against Charleston.
