WILMINGTON, Del.- Anna Richardson (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) posted a match-high 13 kills to help lead the West Chester University women's volleyball team (6-6) to a 3-0 victory over Goldey-Beacom (6-7) on Saturday morning in Delaware.
Richardson was one of two Golden Rams in double figures for kills in the victory as
Zoe Haines (York, Pa./York Suburban) finished with 10 kills of her own. Reigning PSAC East Athlete of the Week,
Lacie Brown (Cochranville, Pa./Avon Grove) led the way in assists with 33, while also posting a team-best two aces in the victory.
After trading points early, West Chester got out to a 16-10 run midway through the set after an
Anna Richardson (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) kill and extended this lead to 20-14 moments later after back-to-back kills by
Zoe Haines (York, Pa./York Suburban) and
CeCe Isenberg (Berwick, Pa./Berwick). Leading by six late in the first set, West Chester withstood a final push by Goldey-Beacom to claim the first set by a 25-19 final.
The second set was a tight throughout and the host lIghtning held a late 21-20 lead but West Chester closed the set on a 5-2 run, thanks in large part to a pair of timely kills by
Julia Kwitchoff (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Wheatfield) and
Abiah Lane (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) to claim a 2-0 lead with a 25-23 second-set victory.
With a commanding 2-0 lead in the match, West Chester worked quickly in the third set, outscoring the Lightning 16-9 to open the frame. The two sides traded points down the stretch but it was not enough for the hosts to overcome the early seven-point deficit as the Golden Rams earned the 25-17 third set victory and a 3-0 win in the match to return to .500 on the season.
Sydney Heffner (Bath, Pa./Northampton) led the team in digs, finishing with 14 to help lead the defense along with Kwitchoff and Haines who tied for the team lead in blocks with three each.
Caitlyn Burch led Goldey-Beacom in kills with 13 of her own, while Ada Koksal posted a team-best 27 assists to help run the offense. Gaby Fernandez led the defense as she normally does, finishing with 19 digs in the setback.
