LOCK HAVEN, Pa.- Alyson Cutter (Warrington, Pa./C.B. South) scored two first-half goals to help guide the West Chester University women's soccer team (4-2-0, 3-2-0) to a 4-1 victory over Lock Haven (1-3-3, 1-3-1) on Sunday afternoon.
Cutter opened the scoring just under 12 minutes into the match with her first goal and team-leading fifth of the season off an assist from
Faith Matter (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) and
Lauren Corless (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge).
Lock Haven did not trail for long, countering with its own goal in the 18
th minute to even the match at 1-1 after Sydney Stahl found some space to convert a pass from Janessa Swartz.
As quickly as Lock Haven found the equalizer, West Chester retook the lead even faster as Cutter scored her second goal of the afternoon in the 22
nd minute off assists from Matter and
Kaitlynn Haughey (Philadelphia, Pa./Penn Charter) to take a 2-1 lead.
The Golden Ram offense continued to threaten throughout the remainder of the half, ending the first 45 minutes with a 6-4 lead in shots, but the score remained locked at 2-1 heading into the halftime break.
In the second half, West Chester continued to pressure its hosts, and this paid dividends quickly as the Golden Rams scored in the 61
st and 67
th minutes thanks to goals by Haughey and
Brielle Zink (Islip, N.Y./Islip) to take a commanding 4-1 lead.
Grace Keen (Lincoln University, Pa./Avon Grove) was strong in goal once again, making a pair of saves in the victory before exiting in favor of
Sam Hollish (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham), who played the final four minutes in goal for West Chester in the rain-soaked victory over Lock Haven.
Her counterpart, Lock Haven keeper Megan Miller, also played well in goal in the loss, making four saves of her own in an attempt to slow the West Chester offense.
West Chester ended the game with a 17-5 lead in shots and a 8-3 lead in shots on goal along with a 10-1 advantage in corners.
