Women's Volleyball Drops Friday Night Clash at Shippensburg, 3-0

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa.- The West Chester University women's volleyball team (16-6, 5-4) returned to action on Friday night, looking to end October with its third win in a row at rival Shippensburg (17-6, 9-0). West Chester battled throughout the evening and was well within striking distance in both the second and third sets, but it was not enough in a 3-0 (25-12, 25-20, 25-21) setback to the East-leading Raiders.

Shippensburg jumped out to an early lead in the first set and never wavered as the Raiders raced out to a 25-12 victory to open the match.

In the second set, West Chester battled back and led by 19-18 late in the set after a Maeve Gallagher (Pottstown, Pa./Pope John Paul II) kill. Shippensburg closed the set on a 6-1 run to earn a 25-20 second-set victory and a 2-0 lead in the match.

West Chester and Shippensburg traded points throughout the third set as the set was tied at 20-20 in the late stages before the Raiders finished out the match on a 5-1 run to post a 25-21 victory over the visiting Golden Rams.

Abiah Lane (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) led West Chester in kills with eight, while Lacie Brown (Cochranville, Pa./Avon Grove) tied for the team lead in aces and blocks with one and two each, while posting a team-best 23 assists. Elianna Freeman (Jersey Village, Texas/Jersey Village), who tied with Brown and Shaena Brooks () with one ace each, also tied with Megan Wolfe (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove) for the team lead in digs with 13.

Elise Bragg led Shippensburg in kills with 11 and digs with 13, while Kearstin Davis led the team in assists (34) and aces (three). Isabelle Bombas and Elise Bragg also tied for the team lead in blocks with two each.
