Women's Volleyball to Host Bloomsburg and Lock Haven in Hollinger This Weekend

Alumni Day Set for Saturday vs Lock Haven

WEST CHESTER, Pa.- Following a non-league win over Felician on Wednesday night, the West Chester University women's volleyball team (12-3, 2-1) will jump back into league play this weekend against Bloomsburg (7-8, 0-3) and Lock Haven (3-12, 1-2) on Friday and Saturday in Hollinger Field House. West Chester will start its busy weekend against Bloomsburg on Friday at 6 p.m. before hosting Lock Haven on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Last Time Out

West Chester played its first home game since September 24 last night against non-league foe Felician. West Chester improved to 12-3 on the year and picked up its third win in four matches with a dominant 3-1 victory over Felician. The Golden Rams took the first set by a 25-10 final, and it appeared as if the match may be over as quickly as it started. The visiting Golden Falcons battled in the second set, but the Golden Rams escaped with a 25-23 victory to take a 2-0 lead before falling to Felician 25-19 in the third set to force a fourth. In the fourth set, West Chester held off Felician and forced its guests to hit -.156 (6-11-32) in the final set to earn a 25-18 set win and a 3-1 win in the match. Zoe Haines (York, Pa./York Suburban) and Maeve Gallagher (Pottstown, Pa./Pope John Paul II) tied for the team lead in kills with 10 each, while Julia Kwitchoff (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Wheatfield) had a hand in nine blocks. Megan Wolfe (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove) led West Chester in aces with seven, while Lacie Brown (Cochranville, Pa./Avon Grove) posted another double-double with 22 assists and 12 digs.

Haines leads West Chester in kills with 151, and Abiah Lane (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) is a close second with 147. Brown leads the Golden Rams in assists with 457 and is second in aces with 20, trailing only Bria Stepp (Cranberry Twp, Pa./Seneca Valley) and her 23. Elianna Freeman (Jersey Village, Tx./Jersey Village) remains first on the team in digs with 137 in her first year as a libero. Kwitchoff extended her team lead in blocks last night, now sitting atop the chart with 48, while Haines is second with 31.

Happening in Hollinger

This weekend marks the beginning of a series of themed home games for West Chester, with Friday night's matchup against Bloomsburg designated as Team Impact night and Saturday as Alumni Day. Friday's match will see West Chester welcome its Team Impact teammate, Eva, to Hollinger for a night with the Golden Rams before West Chester welcomes back its Alumni for Saturday's clash against Lock Haven.

Home Sweet Home

This weekend's matches are the middle games of a five-game homestand for West Chester, as the team opened its homestand with a 3-1 win over Felician on Wednesday night. West Chester is a perfect 7-0 at home this season, winning seven of its 12 matches in Hollinger, and has dropped just one set in the process, dropping the third set to Felician on Wednesday evening.

Series History

West Chester is 8-2 all-time against Bloomsburg, including a split in the season series in each of the last two seasons. West Chester has never lost to Bloomsburg in Hollinger and has only dropped two sets to the Huskies in Hollinger Field House.

West Chester has a much deeper history with Lock Haven, entering play at 11-30 all-time against the Bald Eagles, although the Golden Rams have won three in a row and 11-of-13 since 2015. Last year, West Chester swept Lock Haven in Lock Haven before battling to a 3-2 victory over the Bald Eagles in Hollinger in early November.

Scouting Bloomsburg

Bloomsburg enters play on Friday night at 7-8 overall and 0-3 in league play after losing to Shippensburg (3-2) and Shepherd (3-1) last weekend. The Huskies are currently on a five-game losing streak, with their last win coming against Edinboro on September 20 in a 3-2 final.

Emily Gustie leads the team in kills with 140 and digs with 176, while also ranking second in aces with 26, trailing only Allison Saalfrank and her 27. Erin Clark is first on the team in assists with 324, while Lydia Worthing is first in blocks with 37. Sophie Wales ranks second on the team in blocks with 33.

Scouting Lock Haven

Lock Haven heads into the weekend at 3-12 overall and 1-2 in league play, riding a five-game losing streak of its own heading into a match at Millersville on Friday night. Lock Haven's last victory came in its PSAC opener over Bloomsburg on September 23, but since then, the Bald Eagles have fallen to Seton Hill, California, IUP,  Shippensburg, and Shepherd.

Maddie Mitchell is first on the team in kills with 200, while Madelyn Wagner is first in assists with 278. Natalie Acevedo leads the team in aces with 24, while Olivia Taylor is first in digs with 237. Avery Smith leads the Bald Eagles in blocks with 39.

West Chester will face Lock Haven and Bloomsburg this weekend and will remain home to host Shippensburg and Shepherd next week to conclude its five-game homestand.
