Women's Volleyball Tops Pace 3-0 in Non-League Finale

WEST CHESTER, Pa.- Abiah Lane (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) posted a match-high 13 kills to help the West Chester University women's volleyball team (18-6) to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-22) victory over Pace (9-10) to open the final homestand of the season on Wednesday night in Hollinger Field House.

Pace got out to an early first-set lead, jumping out to a 7-4 lead before West Chester responded with a 5-0 run to take a 9-7 lead. Pace battled back to tie the set at 15-15 before West Chester went on an 8-3 run to take a 23-18 lead, eventually closing out the set by a 25-18 final after a CeCe Isenberg (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) block.

West Chester and Pace traded points throughout the early going of the set before West Chester went on a 3-1 run to take a 20-18 lead, which, after an Isenberg kill, forced a timeout by the Setters. Pace battled back and cut the lead to 21-20 before West Chester won two quick points to take a 23-21 lead and force the second timeout by the Setters. West Chester closed out the set with a service ace by Pace to win the set by a 25-22 final and take a 2-0 lead in the match.

After hitting a stellar .400 (16-4-30) in the first set, West Chester hit .231 (16-7-39) in the second as the Golden Rams held an early 2-0 lead.

West Chester took an 11-8 lead before a 5-0 run by Pace saw the Setters take a 13-11 lead and forced West Chester into its first timeout of the match. The timeout did its job as West Chester halted the run for at least a moment with a Zoe Haines (York, Pa./York Suburban) kill before the Setters snuck out to a 19-16 lead, prompting the second Golden Ram timeout of the set.  West Chester roared back from this point, closing the match on a 9-3 run, including an Abiah Lane (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) block to end the match with a 25-22 third set victory and a 3-0 win for the Golden Rams to open the homestand.

West Chester hit .267 (46-18-105) in the match, while holding its guests to just .130(33-21-92) hitting in the loss, including a .040 (9-8-25) effort in the first set and a .111 (12-8-36) effort in the third set.

Lacie Brown (Cochranville, Pa./Avon Grove) led West Chester in assists with 35, while also posting a team-high two aces, three kills, and three digs. Lane finished with seven digs along with 13 kills and a block to help West Chester wrap up non-league play with a victory.

Megan Wolfe (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove) led West Chester in digs with 10 in the non-league triumph.

Kadence Ackmann led Pace in kills with nine, while also posting eight digs, which was second best on the team, trailing only Alice Bender and her 12 digs. Aralyn Saulys led Pace in assists with 17.

West Chester will be back in action on Friday evening against Kutztown before hosting East Stroudsburg on Saturday afternoon, on what will also be Senior Day for the Golden Rams.
