LOCK HAVEN, Pa.- Jessalyn Welsh (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) finished 15
th in 21 minutes and 57.9 seconds to lead the West Chester University women's cross country team to a fourth-place team finish at the NCAA Atlantic Regional Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning in Lock Haven.
Welsh was one of two Golden Rams to earn United Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region honors as
Kristina Tapia (Ridley Park, Pa./Ridley) finished 21
st in 22:04.5.
Abbie Williams (Huntley, IL/Huntley) was next across the line for West Chester in 33rd
in 22:25.1, followed by Taylor
Atkinson (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) in 42
nd in 22:41.4 and
Ellie Goldberg (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) in 54
th in 22:51.2.
Megan Werner (Bristol, Pa./Conwell-Egan) took 58
th in 22:54.8, followed by
Riley Dortone (Romansville, Pa./Downingtown West) in 129
th in 24:56.8.
West Chester's fourth-place finish was just one place out of a team automatic bid to the National Championship meet in Wisconsin, as Davis & Elkins, East Stroudsburg, and Edinboro captured the three automatic bids. The Golden Rams' finish is their best finish at the Regional Championships since 2019.
Natalie Barr (Glenville State), Emily Bowers (Gannon), and Faith Kiplimo (Fayetteville State) took the three individual qualifier spots as they finished first, second, and third in 21:22, 21:22.50, and 21:24.20.
West Chester will wait for the full National Championship field to be announced to learn if the Golden Rams will earn a team or any individual at-large bids to the Championships.
