KUTZTOWN, Pa.- Anthony McCall (Philadelphia, Pa./ANC) scored a career-high and team season-high 30 points to lead the West Chester University men's basketball team (23-5, 18-3) to a dominant 85-68 victory over Kutztown (8-20, 4-17) on Saturday afternoon.
Tonight's victory gives West Chester its 23
rd win of the season, which is tied for the most in program history, matching the 1998-99 and 2015-16 seasons when the team finished both years with 23 wins. If West Chester is to make the PSAC Tournament run many expect the Regular Season Champion Golden Rams to make, the team will set a new single-season wins record as this historic 2024-25 season continues.
McCall was one of three Golden Rams in double figures as
Elijah Allen (Dover, Del./Dover) and fellow transfer
Davante Dennis (Baltimore, Md./Red Lion) finished with 15 and 14 points each. McCall was 12-for-15 from the field and 6-of-6 at the free throw line in his explosive outing.
West Chester shot 49.3 % (33-of-67) from the field, including a 51.4 % (19-of-37) effort int eh first half, while going 4-for-15 (26.7 %) from three-point range and 15-for-19 (78.9 %) at the free throw line in a complete victory.
West Chester never trailed on Saturday and closed the first half on a 20-7 run to carry a commanding 46-28 lead into the halftime break.
West Chester was able to get its starting five some much needed rest in the second half before the PSAC Tournament begins at home on Wednesday night as the team scored 39 points to easily outdistance Kutztown by a 85-68 final.
Amir Cunningham led Kutztown in scoring with 20 points and eight rebounds as the Golden Bears shot 43.1 % (22-of-51) from the field, including a 3-for-7 (42.9 %) effort from deep and a 21-for-28 (75.0 %) performance at the line.
West Chester ended the game with a 45-25 lead in rebounding, led by six rebounds from
Joshua Walker (Upper Marlboro, Md./Riverdale Baptist), which resulted in a 17-14 lead in second chance points. West Chester also outscored Kutztown 17-14 in points off turnovers, 16-14 in points off the bench (led by six from
Anthony Purnell Jr. (Chester, Pa./Kiski)), 14-4 in fast break points, and 52-36 in points in the paint.
