No. 1/2 West Chester Tops Millersville, 18-8

MILLERSVILLE, PA. – Audrey Miller (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) finished with three points as West Chester saw seven different goal scorers dent the twine during a 18-8 win over host Millersville in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division contest on a cold and wet Saturday afternoon at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium.

West Chester (13-0, 9-0 PSAC East) remained undefeated on the year and maintains its spot atop the league standings. Millersville (8-5, 4-4) remains in the hunt for a playoff spot at fourth in the league standings.

The Golden Rams jumped out to a 6-2 advantage in the first quarter with a pair of goals from Keri Barnett (Glenolden, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) and another pair from Madeline Edinger (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge). Kendall Fortune (Jarrettsville, Md./North Harford) and Miller also tallied late in the first.

Following a second quarter that saw the host Marauders narrow the deficit by outscoring the Golden Rams by a 4-3 margin, West Chester responded in the second half by blanking Millersville, while scoring four themselves, and opened up a 13-6 lead. Sydney Wasdick (Pottsgrove, Pa./Pottsgrove), Fortune, Barnett and Miller all scored in the third quarter.

West Chester's defense allowed Millersville just two goals in the entire second half. Sophomore goalkeeper Hannah Cornelius (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) was credited with six saves in the win.

Barnett finished with six goals and seven total points. Wasdick scored three times while Edinger, Roberts, Fortune and Lila McMahon Skates (West Linn, Ore./West Linn) all scored two goals apiece. McMahon Skates tacked on two assists to finish with four points.

West Chester travels to nationally ranked Kutztown next Wednesday for a 4 p.m. contest against the Golden Bears.
