West Chester Stops Shepherd in Home Finale, 20-5

WEST CHESTER, PA – Host West Chester scored the first six goals of the game and never looked back en route to a 20-5 victory over visiting Shepherd in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division women's lacrosse contest on sun splashed Vonnie Gros Field Wednesday afternoon.

West Chester's defense caused 17 turnovers against a short-handed Shepherd squad that was down two regular starters. West Chester, which has already wrapped up the Eastern Division regular-season crown, remained unbeaten on the year at 15-0 overall and 11-0 in the conference. Shepherd fell to 4-11 overall and 1-10 in the league.

Sophomore attacker Sydney Wasdick (Pottsgrove, Pa./Pottsgrove) notched her 100th career goal in the win. She finished with a hat trick in the contest to go along with seven ground balls and six draw controls. Teammate Keri Barnett (Glenolden, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) netted five goals and finished with eight points. She had five ground balls and caused six turnovers. Barnett potted her team-high 90th goal of the season to become just the third different player to reach that milestone in a single season. She is three back of the school record held by Kathleen Sheehan (93 in 2004). She joins former teammate Hannah Stanislawczyk (92 in both 2023 and 2024) and Katelyn Martin (91 in 2006) in the 90-goal club.

Kendall Fortune (Jarrettsville, Md./North Harford) posted a hat trick and finished with four points like Wasdick had. Audrey Miller (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson), Lila McMahon Skates (West Linn, Ore./West Linn) and Grace Rosica (Dublin, Pa./Pennridge) each scored a pair of goals as well. Piper Hammond (Tucson, Ariz./Southridge [Ore.]) contributed a goal and an assist and had three ground balls.

Freshman goalkeeper Morgan Koons (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) got the start in the cage and made one save through the first three quarters to pick up her fifth win of the season. Sophomore Hannah Cornelius (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) made one save in the fourth quarter to close out the game.

West Chester finishes up the 2025 regular season on the road at Bloomsburg on Saturday afternoon.
