ATLANTIC REGION POD 1 TOURNAMENT CENTRAL
INDIANAPOLIS, IND – West Chester University, fresh off its 27th Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championship, secured the top seed in the Atlantic Region in the upcoming NCAA Division II Women's Lacrosse Tournament and will host a portion of the regional tournament next Thursday and Saturday.

With the expansion of the tournament to 24 teams (6 in each region), the NCAA has split up each region into two separate pods of three teams. The Golden Rams are hosting one of those pods by virtue of its No. 1 ranking in the region.

The Number 4 and 5 seeds in the Atlantic Region, Wingate (17-2) and Limestone (14-5) respectively, will travel to West Chester to play a first-round contest on Thursday, May 8 at Vonnie Gros Field. That will be a rematch of the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) Championship Game this past Saturday which was won by Limestone, 16-7. The winner of that game will advance to the regional semifinal to play host West Chester (18-0) on Saturday, May 10. All game times are at 3 p.m. EST.

The other half of the Atlantic Regional bracket sees No. 2 seed Slippery Rock (16-2) hosting  the No. 3 seed East Stroudsburg (14-5) and No. 6 seed Frostburg State (13-6). The East Stroudsburg vs. Frostburg State winner on Thursday will take on Slippery Rock next Saturday, May 10. The winners of the two pods will meet in the regional final one week later on Saturday, May 17 at the home of the highest remaining seed.

Frostburg State, Limestone and West Chester all earned automatic bids to the tournament as their conference champions. FSU defeated Dominican (Calif.), 13-11, Â in the Mountain East Conference (MEC) final while Limestone downed Wingate in the SAC final. West Chester topped Slippery Rock, 17-11, in the PSAC final on Sunday.

West Chester is 3-0 against the rest of the Atlantic Region field in the NCAA Tournament. All four regional participants are out of the PSAC while three of the schools are rivals in the Eastern Division.
West Chester is making its 18th appearance in the NCAA Tournament and holds a 22-15 record overall. The Golden Rams have been to 11 NCAA Division II National Championship Games and have won two national titles (2002, 2008). West Chester lost to East Stroudsburg in last year's Atlantic Region final. The Golden Rams and Warriors have played for the region crown in each of the last five seasons dating back to 2019.
