Â
ABOUT THE GAME
West Chester lifts the lid on its home campaign with the second of two crossover contests with the Western Division of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). The Golden Rams went on the road last Saturday, but dropped a hard-fought 26-24 tilt at California University of Pa. Today's contest is the final non-conference home game before league play starts next Saturday at Millersville.
Â
West Chester split its first two games of the season with a win at Bentley followed by last week's setback. Following today's contest, the Golden Rams hit the road for two more weeks before returning home Oct. 4 for Homecoming.
Â
Seton Hill enters today's game on a two-game winning streak and an overall mark of 2-1. Following a 24-21 loss to Fairmont State at home in the season opener, the Griffins defeated West Liberty and Bloomsburg. Seton Hill put up 31 points on the Huskies, with 21 of those coming in the fourth quarter during a thrilling come-from-behind win.
Â
SOMETHING'S GOTTA GIVE
Seton Hill features one of Division II's most dynamic runners in Ky'Ron Craggette, who leads the PSAC in rushing with 272 yards and three touchdowns. Meanwhile, West Chester's retooled defense averages yielding 139 yards on the ground. They have the difficult task of stopping one of the most prolific runners in the nation on Saturday.
Â
LEADING THE PACK
West Chester's pass defense currently leads the PSAC allowing just 86 yards per game through the air. The Golden Rams are the only team in the conference that averages allowing less than 100 yards passing per game. West Chester senior cornerback,
Kaleb Brown, has intercepted a pass in each of the Golden Rams' two games so far this season. He is tied for second in the PSAC behind Seton Hill's Darius Patterson, who has three picks on the young season.
Â
COOP OFF TO THE RACES
Senior quarterback,
Cooper Jordan, continues to climb up the school's all-time rushing chart. He averages over 100 yards rushing per game so far this year and currently ranks fourth in the conference in rushing with 222 yards to his credit. He is 18th all-time at WCU in rushing with 2,144 yards on the ground. He also ranks ninth all-time at WCU in passing yards with 4,645 yards through the air. No QB in West Chester history has thrown for over 5,000 yards and rushed for over 2,000 yards in a career. He is already the school's all-time rushing leader among QBs.
Â
NEWFOUND FAVORITE TARGET
Quarterback,
Cooper Jordan, has a new favorite target among his wide receivers in transfer Matt Iuvara. The former Monmouth WR has just five catches. However, he has a team-best 151 yards receiving and a pair of touchdowns. He averages 30 yards per catch and over 75 yards receiving per game. He is coming off his first 100-yard receiving day out at Cal U last Saturday where he hauled in four passes for 115 yards and a score.
Â
96 AND COUNTING FOR GRECO
West Chester head coach
Duke Greco has 96 career wins as a college football head coach to his credit. He is four away from 100 victories. The first 91 wins came as head coach of his alma mater, Delaware Valley.
Â
KENNY ROGERS A COMMON THEME IN EARLY PART OF THE SEASON
On the Road Again has become the rallying cry of the Golden Rams in September. West Chester will play five of its first seven games of the season on the road. West Chester will travel to Millersville next Saturday, before returning home for Homecoming on Oct. 4. However, the next two weeks after that, the Golden Rams are back on the bus and hitting the road for games at Shepherd and Lock Haven. They will close the regular season with three of the last four at Farrell Stadium.
