BLOOMSBURG, Pa.- Lindsey Balmer (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) scored in the 66
th minute off an assist from
Faith Matter (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) to help the West Chester University women's soccer team (2-1-2, 0-1-2) to an important 1-1 draw at No. 22 Bloomsburg (5-0-1, 2-0-1) on Saturday evening.
Bloomsburg took a lead into the halftime break when Katherine Reynolds received an assist from Kennedie Huber and scored in the 44
th minute to break the scoreless tie just moments before the break.
West Chester ended the first half with a 16-5 lead in shots, but Samantha Merklin made eight first-half saves to keep the Golden Ram offense in check. West Chester also ended the first half with a 3-2 lead in corners.
West Chester continued to outshoot its hosts in the second half, ending the second half with a 15-10 lead in shots, which eventually led to the tying goal by Balmer in the 66
th minute.
West Chester threatened down the stretch, but Merklin continued to play well in the second half, making four more saves in the second half to finish the game with 12 saves.
Grace Keen (Lincoln University, Pa./Avon Grove) made six stops in the victory to hand the 22
nd-ranked Huskies their first non-victory of the young season.
The Golden Rams finished the game with a 31-15 lead in shots, along with a 13-7 lead in shots on goal and an 8-7 lead in corner kicks.
