LOCK HAVEN, Pa.- Faith Matter (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) scored a pair of goals to help lead the West Chester University women's soccer team (4-1-2, 2-1-2) to a 4-0 win over Lock Haven (2-4-1, 1-4-1) on Saturday night.
Matter scored her first goal of the night in the 18
th minute, which stretched the Golden Ram lead to 2-0 before extending it to 3-0 with another goal in the 67
th minute.
With her second goal tonight and third goal of the season, Matter moved into a tie for fifth on the goal scoring chart with
Alyson Cutter, who ended her career with 32 goals after an outstanding senior season a year ago.
Kianna Barber (Browns Mills, N.J./BCIT) had the honor of scoring the game-winning goal once again, scoring her fourth goal in five games and second game-winner of the season in the ninth minute off an assist from
Lindsey Balmer (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) as the Golden Rams got out to an early lead.
Thanks to Barber's early goal and Matter's first goal of the night, West Chester held a 2-0 lead at the half and held a 15-1 lead in shots, a 10-1 lead in shots on goal, and a 4-0 lead in corners through the first 45 minutes of action.
In the second half, Matter scored her second of the night to stretch the lead to 3-0 before Balmer added a goal to her stat line in the 74
th minute off an assist from
Lily Pitcherella (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West).
Olivia Conroy (Toms River, N.J./Donovan Catholic) also picked up an assist in the victory, assisting on Matter's first goal of the game early in the first half.
In the final minutes of the victory, head coach
Betty Ann Kempf Townsley turned to her bench, and the second unit did an excellent job of sustaining pressure on the Bald Eagle defense, continuing to pepper Riley Houck with shots as the game neared its conclusion. Houck stood tall late, finishing the night with five saves after entering in the second half in relief of Megan Miller, who started and made eight saves in the first half.
Grace Keen (Lincoln University, Pa./Avon Grove) got the start for West Chester and earned the victory, making two saves in 68 minutes of work.
Sam Hollish (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) entered and played the final 22 minutes of the second half in the victory.
West Chester ended the game with a 26-4 lead in shots and a 17-2 lead in shots on goal, along with a 6-3 lead in corners.
