WORCESTER, MASS –
Alexa Lehman (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) scored both West Chester goals as the visiting Golden Rams downed No. 5 Assumption, 2-1, in its 2025 season opener Friday night at Brian Kelley Stadium.
Lehman registered the first points of her career with a pair of goals about two minutes apart in the fourth quarter to provide all the scoring that sophomore goalkeeper Audra Szymborksi, who made nine saves on the evening, would need to give West Chester a road win over a nationally ranked opponent.
Nina Scott (Schwenksville, Pa./Spring-Ford) assisted on the first tally while
Caitlynn Szarko (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) assisted on the game-winner.
Assumption's Julia Carbone ruined the shutout with just over a minute and a half left in the contest. But, the host Greyhounds could not get the equalizer.
Assumption goalie Paige Gillette made 12 saves in a losing effort.
West Chester held a slim advantage in shots, 18-14, despite corners being 7-2 in Assumption's favor.
The Golden Rams head to Waltham, Mass., on Sunday afternoon for another road contest against a Northeast-10 opponent at 12 p.m.
