WEST CHESTER, Pa.- Zoe Haines (York, Pa./York Suburban) posted a match-high 10 kills and four blocks to help lead the West Chester University women's volleyball team (1-0) to a convincing 3-0 victory over Georgian Court on opening day in Hollinger Field House.
Abiah Lane (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) chipped in eight kills of her own along with seven from
Anna Richardson (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) while Lane and
Julia Kwitchoff (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Wheatfield) tied for the team lead in aces with three each.
Lacie Brown (Cochranville, Pa./Avon Grove) led the team in both assists and digs with 27 and 14, while
Elianna Freeman (Jersey Village, Tx./Jersey Village) had a strong collegiate debut at Liberto, coming away with nine digs and a pair of assists.
West Chester raced out to an early 14-5 lead in the first set thanks to an ace by Brown before rolling to a 25-16 opening set victory.
In the second set, West Chester found itself behind 9-5 early before an 11-5 run gave West Chester a 16-14 lead midway through the set. Once the Golden Rams retook the lead, West Chester never trailed again, closing the set on a 9-6 run to capture the second set 25-20 and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
West Chester won 13 of the first 20 points of the third set to take a 13-7 lead early in the third set. This lead was more than enough for West Chester as the Golden Rams coasted to a 25-14 third set victory and a 3-0 win to open the season.
West Chester hit .297 in the victory, including a strong .333 effort in the second set, along with a .308 first set performance and a .257 third set effort to finish out the season-opening win.
Ava Chrunesky led Georgian Court in kills wtih five while Genesis Simanca added five kills of her own in the setback.
