5 Things to Know: No. 6 West Chester Entertains No. 1 Kutztown Tuesday Afternoon at Vonnie Gros Field

WEST CHESTER, PA – Tuesday brings another Top 10 field hockey matchup to South Campus when undefeated and top-ranked Kutztown comes calling to Vonnie Gros Field for a 4 p.m. showdown with No. 6 West Chester in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contest.

  1. West Chester (8-4, 1-3 PSAC) found out it is ranked fifth in the first NPI Atlantic Region rankings yesterday while Kutztown (13-0, 4-0) sits in first place in the NCAA poll that determines the participants in the Division II National Tournament.
  2. West Chester and Kutztown meet for the third time in the last two years when the Golden Bears are ranked No. 1 in the country. Kutztown won both of the previous contests last year. West Chester has not beaten the No. 1 team in the country since topping Millersville on Oct. 2, 2019. The Golden Rams are looking to break a six-game losing streak against the No. 1 team in the country (0-2 vs. Kutztown, 0-4 against Shippensburg since that win over Millersville).
  3. Kutztown has scored at least four goals in each of their last seven games.
  4. West Chester will try to keep Kutztown's penalty corner opportunities to a minimum on Tuesday. The Bears average taking 13 corners per game. They rank second in Division II in that category. The Golden Rams are ranked 10th in the nation, averaging nearly eight opportunities.
  5. West Chester heads to IUP on Saturday for a 1 p.m. showdown with the seventh-ranked team in the latest NPI rankings.
