WEST CHESTER, Pa.- Peter Tichy (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) gave the West Chester University men's soccer team (6-4-5) an early second-half lead, but Lackawanna (1-8-6) found an answer in the final seconds of regulation to leave Rockwell Field with a 1-1 draw.
Tichy's third goal of the season came on a PK in the 63
rd minute after he was fouled in the box early in the second half. This go-ahead goal, which appeared as if it might stand as the game winner, came after a first half that had been dominated by West Chester, as the Golden Rams went to the break with a10-3 lead in shots, a 5-0 lead in shots on goal, and a 6-1 lead in corners.
Under 10 seconds away from another shutout victory, Lackawanna won a corner, its second of the half and third of the afternoon, and Cristin Lopez-Contreras found his way onto the end of the Amani Byirinboro corner kick and slipped the ball past a lunging
Alexi Amanatidis (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./The Shipley School), tying the match at 1-1 as the clock ticked under five seconds to play.
West Chester finished the game with a 17-10 lead in corners and a 7-4 lead in shots on goal, while also ending the match with a 9-3 lead in corners.
Making his first start since playing the second half at Mercy on September 9, Amanatidis made three saves in the draw, all three coming in the second half, while his counterpart, Rowin Thomas, made six stops for Lackawanna, including five in the first half to slow the red-hot Golden Ram offense.
